Scott Schuman is the man behind the Sartorialist and a great inspiration to many, including me.
Yesterday in Melbourne I had a sartorial moment when I spotted one of the best dressed people I have seen in a long time.
In my excitement I attempted to photograph him.

Let me count the ways I screwed it up:
1. I used my iPhone whilst trying to navigate a busy intersection and keep up with him.
2. I cut off his head and captured him at the precise moment he was picking his nose.
3. I completely managed to omit the vintage Hermes tie, pochette and lapel pin (with feathers).
I did however catch his hand made shoes in London Tan (possibly Church or John Lobb) and his bespoke suit. He was also carrying a suit bag which made me wonder if he worked in the trade.
This morning, back in New Zealand, on my way to work I saw a man of a similar vintage wearing shoes with a Velcro fastener in Grey (possibly Shoe Warehouse or Hannahs) and a flannel shirt tucked into his Marle grey track pants. He wasn't carrying anything because he was using a walking frame.
Maybe if he had invested in better footwear he too may have been able to walk at the same spirited pace.
Bad Photo, Good Suit, Bad Attitude: I am a bad person who is essentially a complete snob when it comes to clothing and worrying about the way people look. That poor man I just dissed has possibly had some kind of illness or a fall and I am just laying into him because he isn't well dressed.
In my defence, treat the two men in a symbolic way:
The Melbourne man symbolising a well dressed city, fast paced and well turned out.
The Auckland Man symbolising a city trying to be super but with some transport problems, poor infrastructure and possibly some pending sewerage problems.
