As a New Zealand owned company we are always excited by other companies that share our ideals. Recently we held an media event in the store and as part of the gift bag giveaway we were keen to avoid the ubiquitous shampoo, vouchers and chocolate.

The Cuisine Artisan Awards in association with Caffe Laffare were held recently: They were established to recognise small scale producers who were passionate about producing high quality, individually crafted goods often according to traditional practices.

We felt a strong affinity with these Artisan producers as we approach our craft in a similar way with a dedication to quality an attention to detail and a commitment to personal service.

One of these producers is J Friend and Co they are Artisan Honey producers. Some of my most vivid memories as a child were spending time in the native beech forests of the South Island, the cool trees with their black trunks and the sweet nectar from the honey dew. Another; hot dry nor wester days where the air is so still that the heat waves are the only thing to distort your view.

When I secretly dipped my finger into their product for the first time these memories came flooding back.
