Crane Brothers has been running nearly 10 years now - our High Street Store has been open since 2001(bar 1 fire) and we have recently opened a Wellington Store which is pretty exciting. As we get busier, my single biggest fear is losing touch with the personal aspect of the business. I used to know every face, remember everyone’s name and even their kids’ names. There wasn’t a suit that I didn’t touch at some stage of its creation. Unfortunately I can no longer say this, given the sheer scale of what we now do, but I believe that as a team we have started realizing our goal of creating an environment that makes men feel confident and special. Every day we fight for this, protect it and strive to improve it. We learn from our mistakes and don’t profess to know it all. We still don’t advertise or brand everything out of existence and still see little benefit in sending out meaningless pieces of direct marketing or bombarding you with frippery. It’s our belief that you’ll come and see us when you need something. It doesn’t mean we can’t be bothered, just that we don’t want to bother you. Unfortunately it is apparent that globally the concept of service has all but disappeared. We live in challenging times and it is a difficult time to be in business. Hopefully our service will account for something. We are adamant that we will continue to produce in New Zealand and have recently made some tough decisions to allow us to continue to do this.
I know I have a great business because we have great customers. It is all of our belief that it is our sole function to make our customers happy and for them to leave feeling they have had a wonderful experience.
